Scots Pine –  Pinus sylvestris

Scots pine is the most widespread pine in the world. It grows up to 130 feet (40 meters) tall.

Needles: Bundles of 2, up to 4 inches (10 cm) long. Often blue-green, the only two-needle pine with needles this color.

Cones: Up to 2.5 inches (6 cm) long.

Where it grows: Throughout Europe.

Similar tree: Japanese red pine has longer needles and larger cones.

Names: Sylvestris is Latin for "of the forest." Other common names: Scotch pine, Norway pine, Mongolian pine.
